For daily wear, nothing beats a ‘my lips but better’ shade. Once you find your perfect match, it becomes as precious to you as your favorite pair of jeans. It’s flattering, easy to wear, and goes with absolutely everything.

But how can you find your perfect MLBB shade? Here are three simple tips:

  1. Determine your undertone. There are many different techniques you can use to figure this out, but one of the easiest is look at your jewelry. Does gold flatter you more? You’re probably warm-toned. Silver more your style? There’s a good chance you’re cool-toned. If either look great on you, you’re probably neutral.
  2. Look at your natural lip color. This color is the depth of the shade you want to match. Lighter may wash you out, and deeper will give a more intense effect.
  3. Choose your formula. The same exact shade can look different depending on the formula. A liquid lipstick in a neutral shade will wear differently on the lips than a tinted lip gloss in the same color.

It  may take a few tries to find your one true pairing, but once you do, it’ll be worth it. We polled the e.l.f. office and asked what their MLBB shade was, and here were their e.l.f. faves:

Katie (fair, warm-toned, blonde) wears Beauty Shield Lipstick in Bare Buffer

Kelly (light-medium, warm-toned, dark hair) wears Matte Lip Color in Praline

Sheila (deep, warm-toned, dark hair) wears Velvet Matte Lipstick in Blushing Brown

Miles (light, neutral, blonde) wears Tinted Lip Oil in Nude Kiss

Sara (medium, neutral, dark hair) wears  Lip Lacquer in Praline

Ellie (medium, cool, dark hair) wears Lip Plumping Gloss in Mocha Twist

Happy testing!
